Overall Experience

One thing I’ve learned this summer is to engage in as many task as you can during your short internship experience to see whether the place is a great fit for you. There were so many things that I’d never thought I’d be interested in. For example, in my internship, I had to run client meetings even though I was only there for 2 weeks. It was definitely nerve wracking, but I was surprised that I thoroughly enjoyed it because I was able to help someone directly. It definitely made me reconsider about the consulting path that never crossed my mind in the beginning.

Another thing that I did was having the informational interview with my supervisor as well as asking for advice during their spare time. Learning from their experience, it made me really think about what kind of job I want to get into. One of the downsides of working with a large company is that everything is very fast paced and you may not have a close-knit community as you may have in a growing company. A lot of the time, you are considered only as a number that can be easily replaced as well as working super late hours that you may not be compensated for. It made me reconsider that perhaps in the short run, I would want to work in a large corporation for the knowledge and experience. But in the long run, working in a growing company may be a better fit for me in terms of the culture and working environment.
