“Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them”

Yesterday was the first day of week two on the Boston Common where Commonwealth Shakespeare Company is putting on Twelfth Night  for their 19th Annual Free Shakespeare on the Common.  We have had between 2-5,000 people attend every single night and it has been such a wonderful learning experience.  Not only do I assist in managing the Front of House, but I have also had to develop skills for leading a group of 24 Apprentices that are around my age.  All around, this internship has been an incredible experience for my growth both personally and professionally.

When it comes to Front of House, there is absolutely no down time.  There is always something to be done, and we have to continuously keep our eyes and ears open for any disturbances.  This is especially important for this production because we are located in a public area, the Boston Common, where anything can happen.  We have had pretty smooth nights so far, and hope to continue on that path for the rest of the run.

On a personal level, I have had the most magical experience with Commonwealth Shakespeare Company.  The entirety of the Company is filled with genuine souls who are always willing to lend a hand.  I honestly never want this internship to end! I love going to the Common every day at 3pm to set up sandwich boards and signs while jamming to music and dancing all over the Common.  I love having witty conversations with the front of house team, the production team and back stage crew every night during the performance as I do my job assignments.  These people have become my family, my home away from home.  This internship has truly been greatness thrust upon me.

Can’t wait to see what else comes my way as the production continues!
