Hitting The Ground Running

I would like to take a minute to introduce myself. My name is Will DeFanti, and I am a rising junior. I spent my freshman year at Assumption College playing division II basketball and decided I wanted to be pushed more academically, which landed me at Babson. Thus far, Babson is yet to disappoint me.

When asked about how I received an opportunity to intern at Plimsoll Mark Capital this summer it is easy to answer, but harder done than said. Network, Network, Network! I took the whole winter break sending e-mails and cold calling firms. First, I called the firms in regards to learning more about the industry and then would follow up. If I felt as though the individuals I had spoken to where in need of assistance I asked them if they needed an intern for the summer. I was turned down by plenty of firms, but I never let that stop me. When it was all said and done, I made it possible for myself to have options to choose from in terms of interning for the summer. The moral of the story is to never give up on a dream, even if it is just weeks away.

After choosing to work under the president of Plimsoll Mark Capital, Bill Hall, I feel as though it is the best place I could have put myself. I interact with him several times a day as we manage a fantasy portfolio together. The portfolio is viewed by Weiss Family Research members, as they have to pay a fee to become a member. The main roll I play is research stocks, mutual funds, market trends, and macro-economic problems, then present a pod-cast of my finding two times a week. Within the pod-cast, I explain the moves which are made within the portfolio and why, for members to get a better understand. After the first week, I am excited to see what other work and challenges come which I will need to overcome.

Until next time.

Best,

Will DeFanti
