In Advertising, It’s All About The Strategy

While the summer temperature is only starting to heat up, my internship is in full-swing as I began my fourth week as a strategy/research intern at Mechanica USA. It’s been a great experience so far and I’m looking forward to my continual exposure to the industry as the summer progresses.

So you might be wondering, what does strategy mean within the context of advertising?

The strategy or account planning role is responsible for all the research necessary in order to craft the best advertising message via the most appropriate method in order to reach the target audience as efficiently and effectively as possible! If research isn’t your thing, this might not be the best position for you. I’ve found that it fits my skill set and personality quite well! Coming up with a strategy is a long and thorough process, but the end result–finding the ultimate strategy “answer”–is quite an exciting feat. I like being a part of the process that ultimately solves the advertising puzzle.

Another thing I enjoy about my internship is that the day-to-day work changes frequently. I’ve conducted research on a wide variety of industries as I’ve developed competitive analyses for new business clients. I’ve switched gears from candles to the fashion designer industry just to give one example! You better believe that my Babson education has helped me with my research and presentation skills. I’ve gotten to sit in on interviews with clients and hear about the broad variety of projects and clients in the works! Everyone in the office has been very kind and pleasant to work with.

I can’t wait to gain more exposure to Mechanica’s branding processes just around the corner in July. My internship is truly reaffirming my career goals and I’m excited to keep pushing the boundaries of my potential!
