Not All Business: FME Dodgeball Tournament

While the first year student-run Foundations of Management of Entrepreneurship businesses at Babson College are operating in full swing, they recently took a break from the business side of things to compete in the annual FME Dodgeball Tournament. About a dozen teams competed in the tournament hosted by the Class of 2016 Steering Committee and it was a true fight to the finish. If you think Babson students are competitive in business, you haven’t seen them play dodgeball.

With pride, t-shirts, and eternal glory on the line in the form of a permanent plaque in Hollister Hall, teams weren’t leaving anything on the court. From the first game you knew it was going to be an intense tournament as powerhouse teams MixItMug and MyImpax faced off in a long fought match with both sides refusing to give in. It came down to a one on one match where MixItMug prevailed many minutes after normal regulation.

While the Class of 2016 Steering Committee members were officiating rather than competing, first year steering committee member Shatiek Gatlin took to the court for Bedshelf but they came up short. Fresh Bites brought a cheering squad with the slogan “Eat. Learn. Win” almost made a comeback led by Jess Coelho and Ryan Linehan, but failed to advance beyond their first game. Life Loop picked up a win, but was soon taken down by One Case.

Yet in the end it was NightGlo and MixItMug in the championship. The game got off to a quick start and after NightGlo made a few key catches and big plays they had the game locked up. Both sides knew they had fought hard and after snapping some photos the tournament came to a close. While FME businesses often get busy and serious over the semester, the dodgeball tournament offered a break to have fun in a different type of competitive atmosphere. Congrats to NightGlo and all teams that participated!
