Beach day in El Salvador

So today is the first full day we have been in El Salvador. And it is a blast so far. We arrived last night at about 9:30 pm, Mountain time.  The beach is amazing and so is the resort we are staying at, Estero y Mar. There are so many things to do here, from go-karting on the beach, to jet skiing, to surf lessons, to horseriding, to kayaking. The water is EXTREMELY warm. A group of us went for a run this morning along the beach. We ate breakfast, which was amazing as well. We had papaya, watermelon, pancakes, fried platanos, and eggs. After that we hung out by the ocean where some of us went swimming while others sunbathed on the black sand. (Yes, the sand is black, due to the numerous active volcanoes in El Salvador.) After that we went kayaking. Kayaking was fun; we saw local Salvadorians who were fishing. (We tried to have a conversation but that was a failed attempt, as our Spanish speaking skills are very limited.) For lunch we had a huge selection of items. From filet mignon, to crab salad, to coconut shrimp. And the best of all, we ate on a patio overlooking the ocean! (Completely gorgeous!!). After that we swam a little more in the ocean as well as the pool and now we are waiting for dinner. Overall, our trip has been a blast so far (for the day that we’ve been here). We also met two other Habitat for Humanity groups, one from Minnesota and another from North Carolina. Tomorrow we will be traveling to the building site in La Libertad, where we will be staying in a retreat center in Ayugala. We are excited about the week to come, but for now we are enjoying our day of rest.
