ZBoard Skateboard MBA MCFE Weekly Project Update: Survey Results

By: How Lau Mendez, Fast Track Student

Last week we conducted a survey to understand ZBoard’s demographics and to evaluate electric skateboard features. According to the survey, the age range that is most interested in having an electric skateboard is 35-44 years old. Therefore, Generation X should represent a large market segment for this industry. Also, the majority of people who responded to the survey expressed preference for a foot controlled skateboard with a speed range of fifteen to twenty mph. The foot controller is ZBoard’s main differentiating factor. Since our survey results showed that respondents have a strong preference for this type of controller, we believe that ZBoard could become a major player in the electric skateboard market.

We also found that electric skateboard enthusiasts value this type of skateboard because it is thrilling to ride, fun, environmentally friendly, and reflects a cool image.

This week we will present our final project status to the client.

This post is part of a series featuring the progress made on consulting services to ZBoard by a team of Babson Fast Track students in Babson’s MBA MCFE class. ZBoard, a weight-sensing electric skateboard, won these consulting services as the result of a contest sponsored by the Startup America Partnership, Shark Tank’s Daymond John, and Babson College. The Management Consulting Field Experience (MCFE) provides graduate students an opportunity to deepen their knowledge and experience in an industry or career concentration.
