The Babson MSM and how you become a consultant for a week!

What is Babson’s Master of Science in Management in Entrepreneurial Leadership (MSM)? Quite simply, it’s a graduate program for those of you who are only getting ready to start their career and feel they need a stronger foundational business knowledge and leadership skills.

What happens to you as an MSM student? Now, that would take a really long post to explain! So I won’t go into detail about the four pillars – Create, Teach, Consult and Reflect. You can read about each of them here. Rather, I will give you a glimpse into the Consult portion and what happens when you hop on a plane and travel to Chile to be a consultant as our MSM students did last month.

In the words of Prof. Sebastian Fixson and Prof. Miguel Rivera:

“The consulting project in the MSM program is one of the pedagogical pillars of the program.  Embedded in the Strategy course, its goal is to create strong linkages between classroom discussions and real world problems. The course content provides the students with the necessary tools for their project work, which in turn provides a realistic background for students to apply the analysis tools and techniques learnt in class. The student teams’ on-site visits with the client-firm allow them to gather data first hand and develop an in-depth understanding of the firm’s challenges. While this won’t always be the case, in 2015, all client-firms were headquartered in Santiago, Chile, so the on-sited visits were scheduled during Spring Break week.  Combined with cultural activities to better understand the country’s background and the context in which the firms operate, the project provides a unique learning experience.”

Wondering what all this actually feels like? Well, a picture is worth a thousand words!
