Nathalie Miebach

Mercedes Encarnacion-Mandez ’12: You’ve probably experienced the power and energy that is transmitted through the weather. Nathalie Miebach, an artist based in Boston uses her art to express the cross between science and art. She does this by tracking data from storms, ecological and astronomical events. Her collection, “Changing Waters” has a mix of colors and patterns that call upon the variety of plant marine life, different hues of the water all while using simple shapes. Her art tracks the music of nature in piano medleys. It is almost as if you can picture the storms as they happen.  It follows a slow crescendo in the same way that a storm would. Likewise, the piece “Tracking the Night” is much slower and features deeper notes to convey the mystery that lies within shadows.

Her art uses a wide variety of colors that are visually stimulating. Just as in nature, her art sways so that you could almost see the waves of water passing through the piece. Nathalie’s piece – “She’s Coming on Strong” tracks Hurricane Grace and the Halloween storm.  As described in her artist statement, her work focuses on mixing art, science and the visual representations of it. She accomplishes this using common crafting items and techniques such as basket weaving. By collaborating with musicians she captures the energy released during storms and transcribes it into beautiful piano pieces. Natalie Miebach’s exhibit will be on display at Babson College in Hollister Gallery from March 28th, 2012 – May 15th, 2012. The opening reception will take place on Wednesday, March 28th from 5pm-7pm in Hollister Gallery and the artist talk will take place on April 11th at 5pm in Hollister Gallery.
