Advantages of Small Businesses

After having worked in some big companies, I’m happy to run with the small players.

There’s less red tape, less nonsense, more strategy, more education.

You’re lean and you learn fast. It’s never about how big your paycheck is, although that’s certainly important in life, but it’s more about what you can do to increase the size of your paycheck rather than sucking it up for another year waiting for your annual raise which may not come with this economy.

It’s all about you and your baby, and what you make of it. Raise it right, and it’ll pay you back tenfold, raise it wrong, and you’ll find yourself in sticky situations all the time.

You also get more exciting press stories. Think about the bland stories out there with small announcements from big firms doing stupid things. You have the ability to impact and influence the media, and that’s quite fun and there’s always a good pat on the back when you make the headline of the New York Times. I don’t know if I could ever work for a big company again. There’s no fun in that.
