I just took the Diana International Project's book (Growth-Oriented Women Entrepreneurs and Their Businesses: A Global Research Perspective) out of the mail and I have to admit that I'm thrilled with the kind of work that is going on around the world for women's entrepreneurship. The questions that are continually being asked about how women start, but perhaps even more importantly, how women GROW businesses share many universal aspects. Everyone in everyplace is concerned about resources and opportunities, especially the ubiquitous capital question. One of the reasons I'm adamant that growth should be part of every entrepreneurship conversation is that growth can be relative and it should be a mindset. And it is not necessarily linear and it can not always readily be tacked on later. Growth might be going for the supposed holy grail of equity capital, but it might also be a street vendor graduating to a kiosk through a microlending program. I think my latest soapbox will be that every single education and training program about entrepreneurship, or small business, needs to have a consideration of growth integrated throughout their programs.
