3 Ways To Leverage LinkedIn During Your Internship

Updating your LinkedIn can be a daunting task, however, it is best to do so during the summer when you are interning for a company as you will have more content to consistently post about. Here are my top three tips for leveraging your LinkedIn profile during the summer:

  1. Connect with  members within your company:

Since you will be meeting many people within the company you work for, make sure to connect with them over LinkedIn in an effort to strengthen your network. This helped me considerably on the first day of my internship as I was able to look at the professional backgrounds of my coworkers and was able to learn a lot about them by just doing this.

2. Post job or internship updates:

If you are working on any interesting projects or attended any conferences or workshops over the summer, make sure to post about your experience on LinkedIn. This will give your audience a better understanding of the types of projects you are working on in your internship.

3. Ask for referrals:

This is the most important tip because it will definitely set you up for success for any future jobs you apply for. It is always a good idea to ask for referrals right after the end of your internship as your recommender will still have a fresh idea of the projects you worked on. These recommendations are really important because it gives future recruiters an idea of your capabilities from someone that either directly supervised or worked with you.
