Three Reasons to Apply to Babson’s Merit Scholarships

Just under four years ago, I was awarded Babson’s Presidential Scholarship, which would become one of the main reasons I decided to come to Babson. The cost of the school I would go to was a definite concern, and my decision ultimately came down to either Babson or one of my local state schools, where I would pay in-state tuition. Once I received the scholarship, though, I realized that the investment I made in Babson would be well worth it throughout my career. My time at Babson has been nothing short of incredible, from studying abroad in Russia, India, and China and taking an Elective Abroad in Spain, to taking part in a consulting project for Fidelity Investments through the MCFE program, to everything in between. Babson was the right choice for me, and getting a merit scholarship was a key part of my decision to come here. After four years, though, I’ve realized there’s more to Babson’s merit scholarships than dollars and cents.

With that, here’s my take on the top three reasons to apply to Babson’s merit scholarships by February 1:

  1. You instantly become part of a community.

At any time, four groups of students on campus will have the same scholarship as you—that’s an automatic network that can help you on campus and beyond. Whether it’s advice about which professors to take or help finding a job upon graduation, scholarship cohorts are well-connected and always willing to help fellow scholars out! But, that community is more than a professional network; I’ve met some of my best friends at Babson through the scholars program.

2. Your tuition bill is easier to look at.

It’s no secret that college is expensive, but as ranking upon ranking shows, a Babson education pays off. When looking at employment data or return on investment (PayScale ranked us #1 among business schools) it’s clear that employers want Babson students. Merit scholarships are a great way to reduce the amount you pay while also rewarding you for the hard work you put in to get to Babson.

3. Scholars at Babson have access to incredible opportunities.

Retreats, paint nights, trips to New York to network with alumni, and dedicated staff and faculty members focused on your cohort are just some of the additional benefits made available to me through my merit scholarship since coming to campus. On our trip to New York, I learned how to conduct informational interviews by talking to an alumnus who is a Senior VP at Viacom Media; the faculty member that works with my cohort was one of the professors who taught the India portion of the BRIC program. The opportunities I’ve had as a scholar at Babson have made my time here that much more memorable!

Being a Presidential Scholar has been one of the cornerstones of my time at Babson and has helped me make the most of my time on campus. I hope you’ll take a look at some of Babson’s merit scholarships and apply today!
