Thursday, January 7th 2016 – Babson Connects students, alumni & more in NYC and Miami

Babson Connect-Miami

January 7th was a beautiful day in Miami and perfect for the Grove Harbor Marina venue, where we hosted the 3rd annual Miami Babson Connect.  More than 130 attendees; undergraduates, IMG_0190graduate students, alumni, parents, faculty and staff gathered to network and learn about opportunities in Cuba.

Imagine a former airplane hangar, now housing rows of stacked boats.  The stage set between the two sets of stacked boats, three stories high.  Three amazing panelists, moderated by Professor Kent Jones, speaking about current and future opportunities that await entrepreneurs through Cuba’s newly opened doors.

Pedro Freyre Esq., Chair – International Practice, Akerman LLP

Raul J. Valdes-Fauli Sr. Partner, Fox Rothschild LLP

Mr. Faquiry  Diaz – President & CEO, Tres Mares Group

Following this fascinating discussion and Q&A, the networking continued.  So many new connections, idea sharing and the exchange of Babson stories.

Up North, was also a great day on the Babson front. To start our day, we took a group of students on a trek to the Google office in New York City. The trip kicked off with a tour of the office which was unbelievable! A stop at the Lego kitchen provided a nice photo opportunity and a taste of the culture. We then spent time chatting with two Babson Alumni learning about their roles and what IMG_1807it means to be “Googley.” The trip was capped off with a visit from our Google Campus Ambassador to learn all about ways that the students can engage and prepare themselves for a career at Google.

Later that evening, Babson hosted the annual NYC Connect at Upper Story overlooking the beautiful city. Over 140 students, alumni and friends and family of Babson enjoyed a college update by President Healy and an opportunity to network. The theme for the night was “Flexing its Muscles: Technology’s Impact on the Fitness Industry” and we hosted a great panel discussion featuring:

Chad Hollingsworth ’07, Co-Founder and President, Triax TechnologiesIMG_0995
Nicholas Cutsumpas, Sports and Wellness Business Development Manager in the IBM Watson Ecosystem

Faculty Moderator: Dessi Pachamanova, Professor of Analytics and Computational Finance, Zwerling Family Endowed Research Scholar

From Florida to New York, January 7th once again showed how strong the Babson community and network is around the US!  Will you be in the Miami or greater NY area over winter break next year? Join us for the next Babson Connect events!  Details and how to register will be posted on the Babson Event Calendar when available
