Send Your Holiday Greetings!

This post was written by Shun Ping Huang ’17, Peer Career Ambassador.

For us aspiring students, the holiday season is one of our busiest networking time-frames because it is that time of the year when we are able reach out to professionals without feeling like we are taking up too much of their time. We simply wish them Happy Holidays, which gives them time to appreciate the holidays despite their busy schedule.

Should we send them an email or a handwritten card?

If you can, always send them a handwritten card, if you cannot, an email is better than nothing! Whether you choose to reach out to professionals through email, LinkedIn, or a holiday card, we should be grateful, professional, creative, and wish them well. Here is a brief sample template that you can follow:

Dear _______,

Form of greeting. 1 – 2 sentences thanking them (this is also a great way to jog their memory as to who you are).

Update them on your progress (if appropriate).

Sincerely,

Sign your card

Include your email and phone number

Who should we send these cards to?

Your previous supervisors and co-workers, people you’ve met at networking events, and mentors. Even if you do not wish to return to a previous internship, it is always good to reach out and keep communication open in case you ever need anything.
