Spring Break At Babson and Beyond

Campus is pretty quiet this week since most of our students are off on a well-deserved spring break.  Over the last few weeks, the Babson student body has been caught up in dreaded midterm season, consisting of many late nights in the library, last-minute studying, and final practice for group presentations.  Through all of the stressful moments, however, spring break was the light at the end of the tunnel, the reward for all of the hard work.  And what do our students do with their week off?  Some travel to warmer and more tropical destinations, others relax at home, while some members of our Babson community take advantage of Electives Abroad or participate in service trips.  And while campus is certainly emptier than usual, some students stay in Wellesley to catch up on those things that fell by the wayside during midterms.  Many of our varsity athletes also remain on campus for practice and games.

A common question that I have received over the past few weeks from Babson students is, “Do you have spring break?” Well the short answer is no, we do not.  However, just as this week helps our students re-focus for the remainder of the semester, our office is also able to switch gears.  As we transition out of application review, we begin to focus on our newly admitted students as well as the high school juniors who are just beginning their college search process.  April is, without a doubt, one of the busiest months on the admission calendar so spring break is a great time for us to get a jumpstart on all of the excitement that is to come!  Over the course of the next few months, our office will be hosting various events on campus, from our Spring Preview Days to Babson168, and our entire staff is doing all of the necessary planning to ensure that these special events go off without a hitch.  At the same time, campus is still relatively busy, as we welcome visitors to our office every day and, yes, some of us are still reading applications – this time for students hoping to transfer to Babson.

As you can see, spring break is a time for the entire Babson community to take a deep breath and gear up for the sprint to the end of the semester.  I’m definitely looking forward to all that this spring holds in store!
