Happy Halloween? How about Happy Championship Season!

This weekend is exciting for the entire campus. As October comes to an end, the trees are losing their leaves and the campus is a beautiful array of fall colors. Students are bringing out their boots and favorite autumn sweaters. Although Sweater Season is my favorite season, that is not why I am excited for November to begin. It is championship season for Babson athletic teams!

The Women’s and Men’s Cross Country teams will be hosting the NEWMAC Championships on Sunday, November 3rd at Franklin Park in Boston. This is the first time Babson has hosted a cross country championship since the 1990s. The team is ecstatic for it and ready for some huge successes. After working hard all season, both the men’s and women’s teams are looking to place higher than they have in the past. After winning some runner of the week awards, both in the conference and region, the team is confident in its abilities going into the postseason. Also, with only two seniors on the women’s team and three on the men’s team, this is a year of restructuring, which will hopefully lead to even more successful years to come. After the NEWMAC championship, the teams will be heading to Maine to compete at the NCAA Regional Championships.

Men’s soccer is starting their NEWMAC tournament on November 6th, after they wrap up their season Saturday at home facing off against Emerson. The team has also had a very successful season, with multiple players winning both conference and regional player of the week awards. They are looking for a strong postseason and hopefully another NCAA tournament appearance.

Women’s soccer also wrapped up their regular season this week with a double overtime tie with Wheaton. The quarterfinals of the NEWMAC tournament start on November 5th. It has not been determined who they will be facing off against yet.

Volleyball had a great season this year, and is hoping that momentum will carry them into a strong post season. For the first time ever, they are hosting a home playoff game during the NEWMAC tournament on Tuesday night. The team is young, but hoping to make more history during the tournament.

Women’s tennis just wrapped up their season in the NEWMAC tournament. The team made it to the semifinals before being knocked out of the tournament by top seeded MIT. Babson was seeded fourth going into the tournament and placed one player on the all-NEWMAC conference team.

Tuesday also begins the NEWMAC tournament for the women’s field hockey team, after they wrap up the regular season on Saturday at MIT for one final conference game before entering the tournament. After spending most of the season at an off campus field, the team is happy to have a home turf once again after MacDowell Field got a facelift early this fall.

Good luck to all of the teams as they enter their post season competitions and congratulations on great seasons!
