Finding the Right Fit! Student Lunch with Alumni Tim Ryan, ’88 of PwC

Babson has great alumni- we all know this to be true… amazing leadership and representation all over the world.  One key element of this that always strikes me is how so many of our alumni and friends want to give back to Babson and connect with our current students.  A great example of this is Tim Ryan, Vice Chairman and Leader of PricewaterhouseCoopers Assurance practice, Babson UG Class of 1988.  Each year, Tim makes it a point to visit campus for a day and meet with key stakeholders brainstorming how he and PwC can collaborate with Babson College.  Not only does Tim meet with the President, Admin and Faculty, but also hosts a student luncheon talk about his career path, reminisce about his time at Babson, and encourage underclassmen to be all they can be and importance of finding the right career fit and culture.  This is the second year I had the chance to help organize and attend this lunch for Tim and 25+ students and again, walked away inspired.  I left the luncheon energized about the world of accounting (yes… you read that right… energized by accounting!) and all the amazing opportunities that the accounting world has for students- not just at the day to day responsibilities that come with working at the “big 4” but the leadership that the accounting practice is spearheading when it comes to ethics, the emphasis on work/life balance for employees, and much more.

Fortunately this talk was recorded and will be posted to this blog soon.  Tim Ryan’s message is loud in clear, no matter what industry or function you choose, if you do what you love and are good at and find the right fit — you will be successful.
