Babson, Olin, and Wellesley Colleges Present BOW World Health Day April 3

Leading up to World Health Day presented by the World Health Organization on April 7th, the Schlesinger Fund for Global Healthcare Entrepreneurship at Babson College, together with Olin and Wellesley Colleges, are delighted to present BOW World Health Day on April 3rd. Bringing together luminaries, thought leaders, and global healthcare entrepreneurs, the event will explore how we can come together to address some of the toughest challenges around UN Sustainable Development Goal #3 (Good health and well-being for all).

As we know, health has direct impacts on productivity and value creation, and ensuring that all people can lead healthy lives is a key driver of progress on the UN SDGs as a whole. We are thrilled to be co-creating a day that showcases the power of the BOW partnership and brings together an interdisciplinary group of both the usual and unusual suspects to address such a pressing societal dilemma.

The day begins with Clearing the Air Part B, a working session building on a design thinking challenge held earlier this week, exploring ways to support smoking reduction on campus that will run from 11:00-11:45AM in Olin Hall Room 125 (the Design Zone). Then from 12:00-1:15PM, join us in Knight Auditorium for Nourishing the Body & Mind, a wholesome lunch from Daily Table Founder, Doug Rauch, Olin College Trustee and former president of Trader Joe’s. Doug will share his story of why he started the Daily Table, a grocery store designed to provide access for healthy and affordable foods for all. The talk will be followed by a guided meditation session nourishing us from the inside out.

From 3:00-4:45PM in Park Manor West, join us for Beyond the Hack: an opportunity to hear from global healthcare entrepreneurs and generate ideas to help navigate the challenges they are facing. Complete the day of global health immersion with a screening of the powerful documentary film, Bending the Arc, official selection of the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, Telluride Mountain Film Festival, and Sheffield Doc/Fest. Co-Founders of Partners in Health and 2015 Lewis Institute Social Innovator Award recipients, Ophelia Dahl and Dr. Paul Farmer, will be on hand with Babson, Olin, and Wellesley College Presidents in WINN Auditorium from 5:30-8:30PM for a viewing of this film about their pivotal work and fight for universal healthcare equity. A light reception will be provided from 5-5:30 PM.

Thus full day of events will generate collaboration, reflection, brainstorming and action on health issues that exist today both locally and abroad. BOW World Health Day is free and open to all. Learn more and register at https://www.bowworldhealthday.com/.
