To Cradles and Beyond

The Cradles to Crayons sort this past Saturday was packed wall-to-wall with eager volunteers, loads of clothing, footwear, blankets, toys, books, and an enthusiastic team of leaders. The event promoted a more close-knit community as the volunteers indulged in conversation as they worked towards impacting hundreds of children in a short, two-hour time period. As a Shoe Table Captain, I was personally motivated by the people I met on Saturday. Some had previously volunteered at Cradles for the past three years while others made it a priority to volunteer at different organizations at least twice a month. The short two hour span made me rethink how I give back to my community and how I should strive to expand on it.

This sort was the big kick off on campus to Babson’s Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week. The event was followed up by amazing opportunities to fast from dusk until dawn, to sleep outside of Reynolds Campus Center, to participate in a local build with Habitat for Humanity, and many more. I was very happy with the turnout of the events and I am hopeful that the students of Babson are more aware of the global issue of hunger and homelessness.
