Derishai Gordon-Staton @ Cradles to Crayons

February 24th, 2012

What a glorious day in the Cradles to Crayons Giving Factory! There were so many bright spirits and the energy was at an all-time high. My FME group (Urbanae Portable Phone Chargers) came to the Giving Factory to help out and they had a great time. They were amazing! Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to work in their section but good came from that. I worked with the Harvard fraternity AEPi in the outfitting section and was fortunate enough to meet a young man named Rossignol but he goes by Rossi. His energy really boosted my love for Cradles to Crayons. He asked me if there was a way that he could incorporate poetry into the Giving factory process and we talked about possibly putting small poems in the kid’s packs. I personally think that it was a great idea and I’m super excited about it. It seems that everyone we meet at the Giving Factory has amazing stories and ideas and Rossi is just one of the many people who are the epitome of that fact. There’s a new volunteer at Cradles named Hena. She and I have really formed a strong bond. We plan on volunteering at the Boston Marathon! Yay! Good always comes from giving and that’s what Cradles to Crayons is all about!
