Babson Alumni Unite Across Five Cities for 5th Annual Day of Service

Babson Day of Service Project GlimmerMore than 130 Babson College alumni, family, and friends gathered throughout the month of February in Boston, Miami, New York, San Francisco, and Charlotte for Babson’s 5th Annual Day of Service.

The first effort spanned four cities itself, in support of Project Glimmer—a nonprofit that inspires at-risk teenage girls and women to believe in themselves by letting them know their community cares.

Thanks to a connection made by Babson alumni Christina Giguere ’94 and Jackie Gosciak ’94 MBA’99, more than 3,330 gifts were assembled and donated to local organizations, including Good Hope Inc. in Boston, United Community Options of Miami, and Lower Eastside Girls Club, the SoMWA Foundation, and Girls Inc. of New York City. All products were donated by Rocksbox and alumni were also encouraged to bring donations of their own.

Christina Giguere is the Chair of Project Glimmer’s Board of Directors, and is also President of the Inner Spark Foundation where she works with Jackie Gosciak.

From Project Glimmer: “One of our core programs is community building and we’re thrilled to have Babson’s partnership on the 2018 Days of Service! For many of the at-risk girls and women we serve, these are the only gifts they receive. Your alumni’s time and dedication to our cause is greatly appreciated. You are letting her know that you, her community, care and believe in her.”

Twelve of Babson’s Theta Chi alumni also volunteered at Rosie’s Place in Boston, a shelter for women and girls which provides meals, shelter, and support through housing and education services. Together, they prepared meals and served food to 145 women and children.

In Charlotte, North Carolina, 18 Babson alumni gathered at Crisis Assistance Ministry—a nonprofit agency focused on preventing homelessness by aiding with rent assistance, utilities, clothing and furniture, to sort and inspect donations, hang clothing, stock the Free Store and assist the Free Store Production Area as needed.
