Babson Welcomes New Governance Members
This May, Babson welcomed three new members to its Board of Trustees and the Board of Overseers. John E. Johnson ’08 has joined Babson’s Board of Trustees, and Gautam Gupta ’07 and Amy White Orenstein ‘94, wife of former Overseer Ted Orenstein ‘94, are the newest members of the college’s Board of Overseers.
John Johnson ‘08
Baldwin-Richardson Foods Co.
Mr. Johnson is the Continuous Improvement Engineer for Baldwin Richardson Foods, a leading manufacturer of specialty products for the food industry, including sauces, condiments, beverage and pancake syrups, dessert toppings, and specialty fillings. A family-owned business, Baldwin Richardson Foods supplies ingredients for some of the world’s most iconic quick service restaurants and consumer packaged goods companies. The company also manufactures and markets its own line of dessert products and savory sauces, including Mrs. Richardson’s Dessert Toppings and Nance’s Mustards.
While John currently holds the title of Continuous Improvement Engineer, he has touched nearly every facet of the company, including Operations Project Manager. It is in his current role where John has had the greatest impact on the future and prosperity of the company.
Gautam Gupta ’07
NatureBox
Recognized as one of Inc. Magazine’s 2015 “30 Under 30 Best and Brightest Entrepreneurs” – Gautam Gupta’s entrepreneurial ambition sparked at a young age, inspired by both his grandfathers. By second grade, Gautam was buying packs of colored pencils and individually selling them to his classmates. His love for creating things from scratch led him to attend Babson College. During his time at Babson, Gautam interned for two and a half years at General Catalyst Partners, a Boston-based venture capital firm, and, at that time, met his best friend and NatureBox Co-Founder, Ken Chen ‘06.
In November 2011, the concept for NatureBox was born, reuniting Gautam and Ken as co-founders. In its first two days, the snack subscription business was met with 100 signups, forcing Gautam and Ken to hand-pack each box from their shared apartment in Mountain View, CA. From there the business skyrocketed — shipping 50,000 boxes in 2012 and 1 million boxes in 2013. Today, NatureBox is one of America’s fastest-growing food brands.
Amy Orenstein ’94
Opine
Ms. Orenstein has a professional background in management consulting. Amy is currently a co-founder of a start-up consulting firm, Opine, focusing on advising small businesses and non-profits. Prior to that, Amy worked for Cap Gemini Ernst and Young primarily in the pharmaceutical and health care industry. In this firm, she managed client relationships, led project teams and delivered results at major pharmaceutical firms.
Additionally, in the past ten years Amy has worked extensively on volunteer boards and committees for non-profit and educational organizations in Fairfield County, CT. Amy also holds an MBA from New York University Stern School of Business and a BA from Babson College.
