Groundbreaking

Dean Hanno tells us that, last fall, the Student Government Association introduced the idea of creating an outdoor congregation space in what is called the Upper Quad (just outside of Reynolds in the undeveloped area in front of Canfield).

“Last fall it seemed like it would be a big stretch for this project to come to fruition without a year or two of fundraising and planning. I'm pleased to announce that through some extraordinary efforts by the students and our alumni friends, we are going to break ground on this project tomorrow (Friday, May 16) at 11:30 am. More than 80% of the project cost has already been raised, with substantial contributions coming from the Student Government itself, the Senior Class (highest participation rate in the Senior Gift Campaign in recent history), our young alums, and several other key alumni donors.

The plan is to start construction almost immediately after we have the Groundbreaking Ceremony and to have the project substantially completed by the time the students return in the fall. To symbolize that this was an initiative driven by the students, the groundbreaking will be done by a group of seniors.

I hope you can take a few minutes tomorrow at 11:30 for this short ceremony, especially to applaud the efforts of the students for making this happen through their own extraordinary efforts. Hope to see you there!”
