One of the reasons I chose Babson is because of the social entrepreneurship they’re known for. I firmly believe that no matter what path I choose, I have a responsibility to go beyond myself in order to help others achieve their dreams as well. Last week, my classmates and I had the opportunity to coach high school students through Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE), an organization that brings entrepreneurial classes to high schools.

At first I was a little nervous…I figured they would ask questions I may not know the answers to. I’ve been a business student for a total of 2 months, what could I possibly have to offer them?! Man, was I pleasantly surprised that I have not only learned a lot since coming into the program, but that I was able to offer a little support to some pretty cool students.

Throughout the day, we were able to meet with different student “businesses” that students are making plans for in their entrepreneurship class through NFTE. Students had thought of apps, gyms, sporting equipment, laundry services, programs that give back to their various communities, and so much more. It was extremely humbling to be able to come into their world and give them some advice as they continue building their business models.

I can’t wait to go back next semester and see how the students are coming along on their businesses! Check out NFTE New England’s Facebook page for more information.
