Babson Celebrates Global Entrepreneurship Week

Tomorrow marks the start of Babson’s 2016 Global Entrepreneurship Week! From November 10-17, Babson will be hosting a series of events and activities celebrating innovation, entrepreneurship, and creativity during GEW. Celebrated in 160 countries, GEW brings together aspiring and inspiring entrepreneurs, helping them embrace originality, imagination, and ingenuity through local, national, and global activities.
Here are this year’s events! Some require pre-registration – make sure to check the Babson GEW website for more details!
- Thursday, November 10 – Academy of Distinguished Entrepreneurs – Babson will induct Sheila Lirio Marcelo, founder, chairwoman, and CEO of Care.com, and Stephen Kaufer, CEO and co-founder of TripAdvisor, into the Academy of Distinguished Entrepreneurs.
- Friday, November 11 – Babson Entrepreneurship Forum – The Babson Entrepreneurship Forum, organized annually by the F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business, is the flagship event of the #1 school for Entrepreneurship. This year’s forum, as part of Babson’s Global Entrepreneurship Week celebration, is centered on the theme of “Take Action.” Whether you want to start your own business, or innovate within a company, we’ve got you covered!
- Monday, November 14
- Disrupting Global Health – Dr Nadeem Alduaji, CEO of Baraka Networks will discuss how entrepreneurial investing can impact global health. Hosted by the Leonard A. Schlesinger Fund for Global Healthcare Entrepreneurship.
- BASE Consultant Office Hours – Babson Alumni Supporting Entrepreneurs (BASE), provides Babson alumni and students with complimentary consultations. BASE Consultants serve as sounding boards and coaches, providing insights and perspectives based on their own business experience and expertise.
- Future of Fashion Panel – Executives from Bloomingdale’s and Talbots as well as the founders of Brass Clothing and The Good Clothing Company will share their distinct perspectives on the changes that are occurring in both the corporate and start-up spheres of fashion. Hosted by The Fashion Entrepreneurial Initiative.
- Tuesday, November 15
- Food Sol Community Table – Food Sol Community Table has become a regular and trusted hub for food entrepreneurs, aspiring food entrepreneurs, students, business leaders and eaters to gather, share and pressure-test their ideas, and to pinpoint their next smart action steps toward growing whatever they care about in food. Now in three markets with over 170 sessions hosted, Community Table continually succeeds because it is a refreshingly direct experience where attendees drive the content and see their needs better met in community than on their own.
- Innovations in Funding – Join the Blank Center for Entrepreneurship and the Stephen D. Cutler Center for Investments and Finance for an interactive panel on innovations in funding. Our panelists will discuss the challenges of raising capital and the opportunities present to entrepreneurs. They will also discuss the skills needed to break into the VC/PE/Angel investing industry.
- Wednesday, November 16
- Division of Equity (*November 15 update: rescheduled, date TBA) Not sure how to divide equity with your founders? Join the Accelerator for an interactive workshop with Professor Les Charm on Wednesday, November 16 at 5pm to find out what you should be thinking about!
- How to Succeed in Tech Entrepreneurship – Guests who have worked in Horizons School of Technology, YCombinator, TechStars, Salesforce, Optimizely, and PillPack, will share the ins and outs of what it takes to succeed in technology entrepreneurship. Hosted by Babson CODE and eTower.

- Food Sol Community Table (New York) – Food Sol Community Table has become a regular and trusted hub for food entrepreneurs, aspiring food entrepreneurs, students, business leaders and eaters to gather, share and pressure-test their ideas, and to pinpoint their next smart action steps toward growing whatever they care about in food. Now in three markets with over 170 sessions hosted, Community Table continually succeeds because it is a refreshingly direct experience where attendees drive the content and see their needs better met in community than on their own.
- Hult Prize at Babson – The Hult Prize is the world’s largest student competition for social good. Students will have the opportunity to pitch a solution that addresses the 2017 challenge: “Refugees – Reawakening Human Potential and Restoring the Dignity of 10M People by 2022.” Babson’s winners will have the chance to continue competing for the ultimate prize of US$1 million in seed capital to launch their start-up.
