Week 6: SF Summer Venture Program
This week, we had several special guests @ Babson San Francisco including: Debi Kleiman, Executive Director of the Blank Center, Kathleen Utecht, Babson alum and managing partner @ Core Innovation Capital, and Stuart Goldstein, Babson alum and managing partner of Samuel Goldstein and Co (Certified Public Accountants).
Debi moderated a fireside chat with Kathleen, a VC who has deep expertise in fintech. Her investment thesis is empowering financial services and her main philosophy is finding solutions to real world problems. Kathleen gave expert feedback to our two financial services startups: Joe McHugh (Earth Loans) and Mike DeMaria (Grow). Afterward, Debi led a round table discussion on what to take into consideration when “Building a Board.”
We also had two *Hot Seats*, Jonathan Kong (DayPop) and Carey Fan (Scootybees), which means more planking with Joe! Lynn Santopietro, Director of Babson-SF campus joined in on the fun 🙂 Jonathan is working on creating an app that recommends events tailored to the individual’s needs and interests and analyzes the data to increase the quality and quantity of events in the area. Carey is creating an Uber for Kids, a safe, convenient and reliable rides-sharing transportation for children for their after school activities.
Of course, it wouldn’t be SVP without more June birthdays! We celebrated Brendan (Shelfie) and Dinesh’s (BigTravel) birthday with ice cream cake and chocolate cake, both very popular choices!
Later that week, Stuart offered one-on-one advising on accounting, product pricing, and insurance. Almost all the teams signed up for office hours and Stuart was helpful in supporting our founders with startup strategies and any fiscally related issues.
Lastly, shoutout to Brendan Barbato (Shelfie) for the fortune teller hat and Tejesh Makanawala (SBC by Motiontron) for bringing so much laughter to SVP!
