Starting a Food Business

Annie Feldman M’16 and Marla Feldman, co-founders of EnerChi Bites, recently hosted a peer to peer session for the Butler Venture Accelerator. They shared their lessons learned from founding EnerChi Bites. EnerChi Bites is an emerging snack food company producing a healthy, tasty snack that comes in bite-sized portions.

The Feldman sisters’ idea started as an interest to find the ideal healthy snack to hold them over the short breaks, but would not ruin dinner. Through Entrepreneurial Thought and Action®, they were able to find a co-packer through their Babson network. The duo are currently using kitchen space out of Somerville to produce their product. EnerChi Bites are currently sold in roughly twelve locations around the Boston area and they just held their Kickstarter Celebration Dinner.

The Feldman sisters pointed out that it is crucial to build a network. They recommended to consult with peers and to continually talk to people in different stages. Though they are food entrepreneurs, the Feldman sisters shared that regardless of what type of venture you’re in, you need to actually start acting in order to learn.
