Fox Biz: Working Women = Destruction of America

“Better start swimming or you’ll sink like a stone” — Bob Dylan, The Times They are A-Changin

The divisive, ferociously partisan, explosive rhetoric of Lou Dobbs, Juan Williams, and Erick Erickson indeed contributes to the dissolution of society they link to the rise of women wage-earners and breadwinners. Make no mistake: these men effectively disparage women and men for working to realize their potential, and penalize women and men who need to work to support themselves and their families. Thinking critically—about science, about our places in the world, about how best to raise children—is what separates us from the animals whose “nature” these so-called “experts” look to for models of how males and females are to behave. We can locate their ideas in the long trajectory of so-called “scientific” research used to defend racist, classist, homophobic, and sexist social arrangements. Given the growing support for gay marriage across ALL social groups alongside the Pew data about women breadwinners, it’s clear: these commentators are on the wrong side of history.
