Until the Violence STOPS

Stephanie Millner:

“The Vagina Monologues,” by Eve Ensler, is a compilation of monologues taken from the life stories of real women. The play is part of the international V-Day campaign, which Eve Ensler launched to spread the word about violence against women and girls — and to STOP it (www.vday.org). Each year V-Day adds a spotlight monologue to the show, focusing on a specific region in which women are most in need of help. This year, the spotlight is on Haiti. Money raised through the show and the organization will go to building women’s safe houses in the country. Each year, in addition to raising funds for the spotlight region, Babson proudly performs the “The Vagina Monologues” to raise money for Web of Benefit, an organization that helps promote the liberation and personal independence of women in the greater Boston area who are escaping domestic violence (http://www.webofbenefit.org). The show, performed on March 9th, had a fantastic turnout and raised a large amount of money for both V-Day and Web of Benefit. The staff of Sorenson Theater helped us to achieve our goal by donating the theater space and technical support to the production.

Recently V-day launched a new campaign called “One Billion Rising.” This is an event that will take place on March 14, 2013. Visit this link (http://www.onebillionrising.org/) and sign the pledge: “I refuse to watch as more than one billion women experience violence on the planet. I’m joining V-Day on 02.14.13 in a global strike to demand an end to the violence.”

Babson looks forward to holding another production of “The Vagina Monologues,” next year. We have pledged to keep performing and raising awareness until the violence STOPS: not decreases, not fades, but STOPS.
