The Rescuers

Ideen Rahvar:

The Rescuers is a documentary directed by Michael King that follows the journey of Stephanie Nyombayire and Sir Michael Gilbert. Stephanie is a young Rwandan anti-genocide activist. Throughout the documentary, Stephanie and Sir Michael Gilbert, a world-renowned Holocaust historian, travel across the world and interview survivors and descendants of the diplomats who saved tens of thousands of Jews from the Nazis and their death camps. Stephanie embarked on this quest with the hope that she could gain inspiration in order to stop the genocide in Darfur, as well as other genocides around the world.

In a world filled with hate, where everyday people watch the news and ask themselves “how can people do such horrible things,” Stephanie and Sir Michael Gilbert are able to shed hope on situations where all hope seemed to be lost. Their documentary, The Rescuers, reminds us that although such horrible things happen every day, there are always people there to counteract the evil with their kind deeds. They empower their viewers to truly believe that they can make a difference. Being a bystander is no longer okay; they show us how many others have made a positive impact on those in need in their darkest hour.

Come watch The Rescuers on Wednesday, April 11th at 6:30 PM in Olin Auditorium.
