But above all, just who are you talking to about this? Who do you got to help? This is where finding a co-founder comes in. This is one of the most important steps you can ever accomplish. You and the co-founder will be the spine of your company to come. So you need to make sure you pick the right person. There are 3 different things you need to consider before picking a co-founder.
#1 You should pick a friend, but don’t pick a friend just because they happen to be your friend. When it comes to a co-founder, chances are the one you will end up picking you already knew. Whether it was from school or you have worked with them or you hang out with them daily. This is something you need because one of the biggest things you will need to give your co-founder is your trust. You need to trust in them as much as you want them to trust in you, and you don’t get this from people you didn’t know before.
#2 You want someone that shares the same vision as you, but offers different skills than what you have. By doing this you can make sure that the person won’t just kiss up and say yes to everything, you will give room for ideas and suggestions, even if you need to be criticized. This way you can actually get somewhere that is constructive, not exactly how YOU want it, because it’s not about that, it’s about how everyone else wants it if you want to sell a product that will actually be bought.
#3 You need to make sure that you and your co-founder live in the same city or town. You can’t guarantee physical meetings which are essential. Sure, telecommuting is available but that only goes so far. You can give and get trust a lot easier physically. And it is important to be able to meet at any time in case of anything important that may pop up.
