From the viewpoints of current students, admission counselors and the dean of admission

Ok so in my last entry I was The Love Guru and in this one I have been asked to be The Life Guru.

It’s that time of year again, admission decisions are going out soon and I am sure many of you that have applied to schools through the Regular Decision application are eagerly waiting to hear where you might be able to go next year. Obviously this is a time of high anxiety for high school seniors since it is a huge step you are about to take. As a college senior I feel a sort of kinship and empathy for your situation, just like you I don’t know where I’m going to be next year and there’s nothing I can do other than send out my resume, use my network, prepare well for my interviews and hope for the best. We’re all in the same boat of “what do we do now?”

A great man once told me, “Don’t Worry, Be Happy,” or at least the radio did. This is the same advice I have for all of you! As someone who has been through the process I am telling you to not stress too much because time is running out. All of your applications are complete so the ball is no longer in your court, it’s out of your hands at this point so it’s time to relax a little and enjoy the last few months of your senior year. I’m not saying it’s time to slack off, I’m just saying make sure you find some time to appreciate the activities you enjoy most right now and find time to spend with your friends before you all start going down different paths.

Some of you might be asking me how I could possibly tell you not to worry when there’s a chance that you might not go down the big life path you’ve had planned for yourself if you don’t get into your #1 love of your life school. If this does happen IT’S NOT THE END OF THE WORLD! Trust me. Yes it’s a huge dissapointment and yes it means you need to do some thinking, I know - I’ve been there not long ago, but it doesn’t mean that all of your hopes and dreams are not going to come true. Here’s a secret, wherever you go to college, life is what you make of it. Attitude and outlook are everything. Yes, to be completely truthful a particular college’s name MIGHT get your foot in the door at certain places but ultimately it’s what you did while you were at that school that matters most. If these next few weeks don’t go the way you planned just have faith that things have a way of working out in the end (because they do, I swear).  You are the final say in what kind of college experience you have so enjoy these last few months and remember…Don’t Worry, Be Happy.

I am a very worried person all the time and right now am worried about roommates when I am a freshmen. I would much rather just pick the person I know and want to room with than risking having some person I hate as a roommate. It just really makes me owrried not knowing what lies ahead. Do you guys understand. I know I sound like a total loser right now but I think the worry makes sense in a way. I just… well whatever it doesn’t really matter. I liked your blog none the less.
